Norwegian kayak cup ble arrangert lørdag 26. april med 3 deltagere fra klubben. Her er Tom Brodie sine memoarer in english:

Larvik sent a team of 3 to the first ever Norwegian Kayak Cup on the 26th April.
The course was on the Stor-Elva, Øvre del, Vegårshe, near to Arendal.
The three team members were Simen, Jonny and Tom. The course was a challenging bit of white water with stoppers and rapids, some flat water for endurance and a challenging slide/ foss to finish off the course. The course was run twice. Once straight down and once with a series of salmon gates. The competitors then retired to a local club members hytter for drinks, grill and prize giving. Thanks to Sweet, Havpadlern.no and Padlesepesialisten.no for the awesome prizes. It is fair to say that we were not in contention for the top prices in the event but we had a great time. We all stayed on our boats the whole time and Simen and Jonny did fantastically considering that they are so new to the sport. Tom didn’t do too badly considering he is so old! Thanks for the club that organized everything Per Chr Pedersen and Ole G Selås

Her er noen ord fra Tom Brodie vedr. starten 13. mars:

The white water paddling season officially began today (13th March 2008) earlier than ever due to the mild spring temperatures. Three LPK members, Tom Brodie, Simen Eide and Anders Thorbeck took to river for the first time.

The location was Hagneselva and Storelva running out of Gokjo and into Åsrum just North of Sandefjord;

This was a river that Tom had spotted earlier in the winter and could not wait to try out. With Tom’s new creek boat arriving today it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

We had expected a gentle paddle, grade 2+ perhaps but got a little more than that.

The river was in “spate” running at full speed and the rapids were longer and harder than we had anticipated. Grade 2, with sections of 3 and one of 4. There was a grade 5 option but we decided against that on this occasion – our first trip and with a tree a little too close to the line.

A great time was had by all. Three rolls were made in total, one on the seal launch, one on the first rapid and one on the hard rapid. Although the hard rapid was also accidently run backwards by one of the party!!

This is a great little training river that we feel like we have “discovered”. We hope to run many more times whenever there is lots of water around. There are even some play waves we spotted and would like to try out next time when we have a bit more time. We left Sandefjord at 4.30pm and were home again by 7.30pm – not bad for a first decent (for us!).
